JOE’S
JOTTINGS….
All registered parishioners are St. Edward’s are a valued
and important part of our community—including those who
rarely attend Mass. The Third Commandment requires them to
come for Mass each weekend, and Jesus wants us to imitate
Him by going in search of His lost sheep (Lk. 15:4-7)—and
that’s why we are conducting an outreach to our inactive
fellow parishioners.
This week we will be compiling our mailing list (by
eliminating everyone who filled out one of the green cards
in church over the last two weekends, along with those known
to us as shut-ins unable to attend Mass), and then sending a
loving letter of invitation to all other registered
households—a letter apologizing for any hurts or
misunderstandings, inviting these parishioners to a special
meeting in which they can voice criticisms, questions, and
concerns, and asking them to resume weekend Mass attendance.
Please pray for the
success of this campaign.

There will be a training session for new Eucharistic
Ministers tomorrow, Monday Nov. 17, from 7 – 8pm in
church.
Any parishioner (high school age or older) wishing to
minister in our parish is welcome to attend (and we are
always in need of more Eucharistic Ministers).

The following important item is reprinted from several years
ago; you’re invited to save it for future reference and/or
emergency use.
Save Your Own Life if You’re Alone
and Having a Heart Attack
“In many cases heart attacks strike with no prior physical
warning and many people are alone when it happens. If you
feel the signs of one coming on, get to an emergency room
ASAP—what you do during the early moments can mean the
difference between life and death.
“What are the signs? Well, when your heart stops beating
properly you will begin to feel faint—you have about 10
seconds left before losing consciousness. But if you’re
having a heart attack and there’s no one around to perform
CPR on you, there are things you can do to help yourself.
Immediately take a DEEP breath—and then cough twice,
as hard as you can! The cough must be deep and
prolonged. Wait a couples of seconds, take another
DEEP breath and again cough twice—just as before—and
continue to repeat this procedure. This is a simple form of
CPR. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it
regain its normal rhythm.
“Once your heart has stabilized, chew and swallow one
aspirin and take 1 full teaspoon of cayenne pepper
(of 1 full tablespoon of Tabasco sauce) and swallow
it with a glass of water. The aspirin will thin the blood
and prevent platelets from sticking. The cayenne or Tabasco
sauce will dilate your blood vessels—so blood can flow more
freely. [Also,] cayenne packed into a wound will stop the
bleeding in seconds—no matter how severe the wound. And,
since the area is already in a state of shock, it will cause
little or no pain” (from Sound Body). NOTE:
According to Dr. William Campbell Douglass (in his
newsletter Second Opinion), taking magnesium during a
heart attack is much more effective than aspirin.
Attention single women, ages 18 – 35: A special “Come
Away” Vocation Day is being sponsored by the Archdiocese of
Detroit for any-one discerning a call to religious life. The

Five-year-old Sally had just received gifts of a new watch
and a small bottle of perfume. When her family invited the
pastor over for dinner, she was eager to show off her new
presents, but her mother sternly instructed her to wait
until after dinner and not interrupt the meal. Sally tried
to obey, but unable to contain herself, she leaned over to
Father during dinner and whispered, “If you hear a little
noise and smell something, it’s me!”

FOR
THE
DAY
We are like teabags whose strength comes out when we’re put
in hot water.
So, when problems upset you . . . just think, you must be

A
FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Like the servants in
today’s Gospel, God has given us special assets and expects
us to totally invest ourselves in them. Laziness or being
too busy is not tolerated. Family was freely given to us and
is our most precious asset. Invest yourself!

The good news of today’s Gospel is the extravagance of
what is being given us. All we need to do is be faithful
in “small matters.” The cost of fidelity has no
comparison to the reward given.
When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer
use to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you are
sharing God’s extravagant love.
FLOWER: Families Live Out the Word in
Everyday Routines.
To one he gave five talents; to another two, to a
third, one….Come share your master’s joy!
As
parents, grandparents, teachers, guardians, and caring
adults, we often recognize the gifts and talents of our
children, students, and youth before they do. We strive to
help them identify their gifts and call forth the sharing of
their gifts. Our prayer is that they will use their gifts
for good and that their gifts will multiply and bring joy.
We offer our guidance, encouragement and support, but
recognize that only they take the risk and invest
themselves to utilize and grow
their talents. How de we invite them to identify and share
their talents so that they too may share in God’s joy? |
