Welcome to St. Edward on the Lake Website
Once there
was a seven-year-old boy named Danny who, as a result of an
accident suffered early in life, had only one arm. On
the first day of second-grade catechism class, the teacher
asked the children to fold their hands and sing, "This is
the church, this is the steeple." A girl named Hannah
was sitting next to Danny, and seeing his dilemma, put her
fingers and hands in his, while saying, "Come on, Danny; you
and I will be the church together."
Scripture says,
"O, Lord, our God, how glorious is Your name throughout the
earth!...Out of the mouths of babes You have fashioned
praise..." (Ps.8:2-3). A young girl's
sensitivity and compassion provides an example for all of
us; her wise insight points to our shared responsibility:
You and I are called to be the Church together.
A strong
sense of community is one of the many blessings God has
granted to St. Edward on-the-Lake but the Lord does not want
us to become complacent or to rest on our laurels. He
calls us to continue growing in faith and love, letting the
light of His truth shine forth not only in our church
building on Sundays, but also in the larger community the
rest of the week. Because we are made in God's image
and likeness, we all have something valuable to share;
because we have not been perfected nor reached our heavenly
home, we all need the sacraments and grace Christ gives
through His church, along with the community and support
provided by our fellow believers.
As pastor, I
thank you for all you do for St. Edward Parish, and I urge
you to continue growing in faith, holiness, and joy.
As the lives of so many of our parishioners attest, the Lord
Jesus does great things for those who trust in Him - and we
in turn are called to do great things for others in the
power of His Name. Let us pray that the wisdom and
strength of the Holy Spirit may always be with us, so that
all of us may indeed be the Church forever.
